Raye Montague was the first person to create a program that built the first ever comprehensive ship design. As a challenge, the students built a boat, ship, or submarine.
For Women's History Month, we read the book Up Periscope! about Raye Montague.
Coding Adventures
In our first-grade computer science program, students learn the basics of coding through hands-on exploration with Indi robots. Indi is a screen-free, kid-friendly robot that helps young learners understand how computers follow instructions, make decisions, and solve problems. By using colorful tiles and simple challenges, students create “programs” that guide Indi through paths, mazes, and missions.

Cultural Representation
At the Bassette Library, we want students to see themselves in the books they read. Students are able to read books that represent their culture.
Our book collection contains a variety of books about diverse cultures, traditions, and people.
Students learn to use our online book catalog, Destiny Discover, to search for books AND locate them on our bookshelves!!
